3 Wheel Mobility Scooter
If you are older, suffer from arthritis or have difficulty getting around you may find yourself in the market for a mobility scooter. Of all choices, the most important will be whether to purchase a 3 wheel or 4 wheel scooter. We'll help you decide.
Advantages Of A 3 Wheel Mobility Scooter
One of the most significant advantages a 3 wheel scooter has over it's 4 wheel counterpart is turn radius. On average, a three wheeled mobiility scooter will have around a 30% smaller turning circle, in many cases this equates to a turn radius of less than 36 inches. This makes a 3 wheel scooter ideal for manuvering around the home, hallway, bathroom and other areas in the home. Three wheel scooters also have a weight advantage, making them ideal for travel and portable scooters.
Disadvantages Of A 3 Wheel Mobility Scooter
While these scooters are lighter and more manuverable, the lack of an extra wheel costs a bit of stability. While 3 wheeled mobility scooters are certainly safe, they also give up a bit of balance and weight capacity. This is why many full size scooters have 4 wheels, and why many 3 wheel scooters aren't designed for rugged outdoors use. The disadvantages may seem many, but in reality unless you plan on spending alot of time outdoors or need the extra weight capacity you'll probably be happier with a three wheel scooter.
